We have all heard the motto,” An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” I like it but I prefer this one. “A good decision a day goes a long way.” All of
us have been in a situation where we were hungry and had to settle for fast
food due to whatever situation we had in front of us. Most likely, if you were
in this situation you would go for the closest fast food restaurant to you. Do
you remember what you chose? Was it Subway? Or was it McDonalds? Don’t feel
bad, we all have fallen off the diet wagon every now and then. The one thing
that sets you from the rest of the people who have is one of the two reasons:
You either made up the mistake by doing extra cardio or added an extra weight
training session in your weekly schedule or you made it up by being extra
strict in your diet for the next couple of days.
The one
thing I want you to take away from this is to know that dieting doesn’t have to
be horrible. You don’t need to restrict so many things from your dieting and I
don’t want you to think that you can never touch food that you really want to
eat ever again. I say this,” Earn your cheat days or cheat meals.” I make it
very clear to my clientele that they are allowed a 24 hour period where they
can eat and drink whatever they wish as long as they earn it. They have to do
their cardio every day. They have to give 100% during their sessions with me.
They have to be strict on their diet for the 6 days before they are allowed to
eat like they have no common sense for the 24 hours they earned. As soon as the
24 hours are over, they are back on the horse and continuing towards their
goals.
I want
all of you to try this for the sake of your health. When you go out to eat, ask
for water. Not a tea or a soda. When you get your Starbucks, skip the largest
cup and go for the smaller portion. If you know you are headed to a get
together or a party where unhealthy food is being served, eat healthy before
you go. When the sun is going down, cut
the carbs out of your food from then until it is time for breakfast. Don’t skip
your breakfast, it is important. Even if it is something small, it counts.
Dieting
doesn’t have to be hard. You are only slightly limited to your food choices and
you get to have your bad food after you earned it. Earned is the key word. The
reason why people can’t stick to a “diet” is because they are too strict on
themselves. It is all about cause and consequence. The better you eat, the less
you need to wait for your results to come your way. The worse you eat, the
longer you have to wait. So next time you’re thinking about getting back on a
“diet” , please refer to your past experience with them and if possible,
contact a fitness professional who can help you even further.
